Instruction For Navigating Screens in GLO-BUS

All screens inside the GLO-BUS program which you are on the edge of entering are accessed via a menu of icons located on the left side of every screen. There are seven menu/icon selections:

  1. Decisions. This selection lists the 6 regular decision screens and an optional decision screen that your instructor may activate. Clicking on any of the decision menu items will take you instantly to that screen. You can move from any one decision screen to any another decision screen with one click. The Special Bid screen cannot be accessed until the option is activated by your instructor.
  2. GSR (which stands for GLO-BUS Statistical Review). This menu option is used to review industrywide information for the previous year; the GSR can be accessed as soon as you are notified via e-mail that the results are available. Clicking on this menu item takes you to a 6-page report—a scoreboard of company performances (3 pages); an overview of camera sales at retail, retailer inventories of cameras, and forecasts of camera sales for the next two years (page 4); benchmarking data (page 5); and comparative financial performances of all companies in the industry (page 6). When you click on the GSR menu, a submenu for each page will appear that allows you to move from one page to another with one click.
  3. Competitive Intelligence Reports. This menu option consists of Quarterly Snapshots showing the competitive efforts of all companies in each geographic region and a 1-page Company Analysis that gives you the capability to review any company’s decisions on each competitive effort measure (price, advertising, P/Q rating, warranty period, special promotions, and so on) for the most recent 12 quarters. With a couple of clicks the Quarterly Snapshot shows any company’s competitive efforts compare to the industry-averages in any geographic market of interest, provides strategic maps showing the market position of rivals in that region, and identifies the company’s competitive strengths and weaknesses in that geographic market. You’ll find this menu selection exceptionally valuable in diagnosing the actions of rival companies, understanding your own company’s competitive strengths and weaknesses, and spotting opportunities to improve your company’s competitiveness and financial performance. Next to the Decision menu item, the Competitive Intelligence menu item will/should be your most frequently used menu selection.
  4. Company Operating Reports. Clicking on this menu item takes you to a 6-page series of reports displaying every aspect of your company’s operations for either the past year (actual results) or the upcoming year (projected results, given the most current entries on the decision screens. The Company Operating Reports consist of a Production Cost report (1 page), a North American Operations report (1 page), a Europe-Africa Operations report (1 page), an Asia-Pacific Operations report (1 page), a Latin American Operations report (1 page), and complete financial statements (1 page). When you click on the Company Operating Reports menu, a submenu for each Report will appear that allows you to move from one report to another with one click.
  5. Print. This selection allows you to print the current screen or all screens for whatever main menu item (Decisions, GSR, Competitive Intelligence Reports, Company Operating Reports) you are in at the moment.
  6. Save Decisions to GLO-BUS server. This will save your decisions to the server even if you are not finished with your session.
  7. Exit. This selection is used to Exit the program and end your session. When you exit, you will be prompted to save your decisions if you have not already done so.
